  1. National Technology Day is annually observed across India on 11 May to recognize and honor the remarkable accomplishments and contributions of its scientists, engineers, technologists, and others involved in the field of science and technology in the development of the country. The theme of National Technology Day 2023 is “School to Startups- Igniting Young Minds to Innovate”.
  2. The UNESCO World Heritage Centre has recommended Santiniketan, the cultural site in West Bengal, India, for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
  3. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has launched ‘Harit Sagar’ Green Port Guidelines 2023 to achieve its vision of zero carbon emissions.  
  4. Brigadiers and above rank officers of the Indian Army will don a common uniform from 1 August, irrespective of their regiments and services, to promote a common identity of the senior leadership.
  5. Rathendra Raman, a 1995 batch Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer, on 9 May 2023, took over as the new Chairman of the Kolkata Port, now known as Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP).
  6. The Sharjah Police launched a traffic campaign, ‘Stay in your lane’ to curb road lane violations.
  7. The Indian Navy and the Royal Thai Navy conducted the 35th edition of the India-Thailand Coordinated Patrol (Indo-Thai CORPAT) from 3 May to 10 May, 2023.
  8. Alia Bhatt is the first Indian Global Ambassador of Gucci. She will make her appearance as their ambassador at the Gucci Cruise 2024 show in Seoul, South Korea.
  9. The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, who is the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, awarded 8 Kirti Chakras and 29 Shaurya Chakras to personnel of the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces, and State/Union Territory Police. Five of the Kirti Chakras and five of the Shaurya Chakras were awarded posthumously.
  10. India’s first high-level Steering Committee Meeting of Deep Ocean Mission on 10 May, 2023 was chaired by Dr Jitendra Singh.
  11. The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka has approved a bill seeking to decriminalize homosexuality, according to the Speaker of Parliament.  
  12. Former President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, presented the Bharat Ratna Dr. Ambedkar Award to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his efforts in creating a fear-free Uttar Pradesh.
  13. India leads a list of 10 countries that together account for 60 percent of global maternal deaths, stillbirths and newborn deaths, and 51 per cent of live births globally, according to UN Study.
  14. MyGov in collaboration with Ministry of Culture launched a singing talent hunt called ‘YUVA PRATIBHA’ on 10 May, 2023.
  15. Eleven countries have collaborated to strengthen conservation efforts for migratory birds and their habitats in the Central Asian Flyway (CAF).
  16. Antonio Carbajal, the first Mexican player to appear in five World Cups, has passed away at the age of 93.
